Makeup By Mario SurrealSkin Foundation Review

As I was mindlessly scrolling TikTok, I stumbled upon Mario’s post (this one here) about his new product that would be releasing the following day (after Christmas)! Naturally, I stayed up until midnight with excitement and immediately placed my order for the first-ever complexion product by Mario! The Makeup By Mario SurrealSkin foundation is a liquid formula and comes in 30 flexible shades.

I took a chance when ordering my shade and ordered light 5N (light with a neutral undertone). To my (lucky) surprise it was a perfect match! However, even if I had ordered a shade up or two I believe they still would have looked good. Nevertheless, if you’re around my skin tone light 5N would work perfectly!

The foundation comes in 1fl oz (30ml), a beautiful glass pump bottle with a white cap. The packaging is what you’d expect from a Makeup By Mario product (his blush sticks are my favorite and in my project pan). The claims for the foundation are long-wearing, natural finish, medium coverage, and hydrating. And it retails for $42.00.

The highlight ingredients in this foundation are grapeseed oil and vegetable squalene for moisture and perfecting powders that work with the skin’s natural texture. Here’s a complete list of the ingredients:

Water/Aqua, Polyglyceryl-6 Polyricinoleate, Coconut Alkanes, Caprylyl Methicone, Cetearyl Isononanoate, Polyglyceryl-2 Isostearate, Glycerin, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Boron Nitride, Dimethicone, Sodium Chloride, Glyceryl Caprylate, Silica, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Levulinic Acid, Sodium Levulinate, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Tocopherol, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Squalane, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Sodium Phytate, May Contain (+/-): Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Mica (CI 77019), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).

As you see, they’re many hydrating ingredients with the third one being coconut oil. If you have sensitivities or cannot tolerate coconut oil then I’d suggest keeping away from this product.

Holding the bottle under the light they’re some shimmer particles, however, on the skin, it doesn’t show. So no worries about looking super sparkly. Instead, as it suggests you will have a beautiful luminous finish on your skin.

Because of its hydrating ingredients, I lightened the use of my moisturizer and used my Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen instead of my Elf Woah Glow or Suppergoop Glow screen. For my dry and sensitive skin, this was a good combo when paired with the Makeup By Mario SurrealSkin foundation.

Makeup By Mario SurrealSkin Foundation Before & After

Less Is More – One Pump Is All You Need

If you’re someone who loves to use more than one pump of foundation, I’d have to say with this product specifically less is more. I used one pump all over my face and still had a little left over. It covered beautifully and looked exactly like skin but of course, so much better and luminous!

And with the one pump I used, as I concluded my 8-hour wear test the foundation became much more glowy and luminous. I definitely could’ve powdered, but when I do a wear test setting with powder and setting spray is something I usually avoid. To provide a fair and accurate assessment.

Who Is Makeup By Mario SurrealSkin Foundation Good For?

This foundation has quickly moved up to become one of my favorites. If you have dry skin you will love this! If you have oily skin you will no questions asked want to go in with a powder! And as for my sensitivity? This foundation did not break me out or cause any issues. So if you too have sensitive skin you will love it!

The foundation is perfect for those who love a luminous and natural finish. Best for dry skin types, though.

Where To Buy

If it hasn’t been made obvious at this point, I love this foundation. It’s definitely geared more toward drier skin types but it doesn’t mean you can’t make it work if you’re oily.

Makeup By Mario SurrealSkin foundation is available at MakeupbyMario.com and Sephora.com.
