I’ve seen so many rave reviews from influencers about the brand Nécessaire. Which of course, piqued my curiosity whilst also having me a bit skeptical. Is a $25.00 body wash actually worth all the hype? A few months ago I purchased the Nécessaire body ritual set simply to test out and report my thoughts!
When searching about the company the first thing that caught my attention was their sustainability. They’re climate-neutral and plastic neutral certified, they’ve partnered with 1% for the planet, and they follow EU guidelines when formulating their products (which are stricter than the US). Nécessaire products are vegan-friendly and cruelty-free; leaping bunny certified. As a company, they seem great, fantastic even; but how well do their products perform?
We are in pursuit of a more responsible approach. It is our commitment and we recognize we have far to go in ours. Below we have captured our work to date.
Nécessaire
If you’re sensitive to fragrance or do not like fragrances in your products all of Nécessaire’s products are fragrance-free with select products having the option to come fragranced. The packaging is right up my alley! Very simple, minimal, and beautiful! So of course, the designer in me considers this a winner in that area!

The Body Ritual Set: Sephora || Nécessaire
The Body Wash
This was the first and perhaps most talked-about product! The body wash in the ritual set comes in the eucalyptus scent but is not overpowering.
The first thing I noticed besides the gorgeous packaging is the twist-open cap. I love this as you have a bit more control over how much product you want. A little goes a very long way! It’s a gel consistency, which usually isn’t my favorite. But even though it’s very lightweight it lathers beautifully and leaves your skin feeling moisturized!
I’ve used many cream-textured body washes in the past and I must admit this was the most moisturizing body wash I ever used. Likely due to its standout ingredients such as Niacinamide, Vitamin E & C, and Omega 6 & 9.
Before changing out my shower filter my water was extremely hard. And yet, the body wash continued to perform great! I was shocked! If you suffer from dry skin, especially during Winter this body wash will not disappoint!
The Body Wash is one of the products you are able to select a fragrance option if you wish.
- Eucalyptus – light sage color cap.
- Bergamot – olive green color cap.
- Sandalwood – black color cap.
- Unscented – white color cap.

The Body Exfoliator
The body exfoliator is a product I was not expecting to love! How many times have you tried a body exfoliator only to be disappointed? Countless times, am I right? They’re either too rough or leave the skin rough and irritated; which was not the goal. This exfoliator will not disappoint! I was expecting a thick texture, however, it’s a gel texture and a very lightweight thin consistency. The exfoliants are so fine and smooth, yet get the job done! It consists of bamboo charcoal, pumice, glycolic acid, lactic acid, and salicylic acid.
Like The Body Wash, you’re able to select a fragrance option.
- Eucalyptus – light sage color tube.
- Bergamot – olive green color tube.
- Sandalwood – black color tube.
- Unscented – white color tube.
Its fine texture isn’t harshly abrasive on the skin. But it does a lovely job at sloughing away any dead skin leaving your skin feeling moisturized, smooth, and so soft! Normally, I would use exfoliating gloves – which is an option if you’d like to feel a bit more abrasiveness; but my sensitive skin loves this on its own!

The Body Serum
The body serum I must admit was the most shocking to me. It’s a white-colored serum and is a silky texture that goes on incredibly smooth. It’s a pull-off cap; the product dispenses through a pump. I use this right out of the shower on damp skin. For larger areas, I find 2 pumps to be the right amount while smaller areas only require 1 pump. I was expecting it to dry out my skin a bit as some serums tend to do but this did not. It’s formulated with five molecular weights of hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and ceramide NP (plant-based to help hydrate and plump the skin) that help to really lock in that moisture.
For me, this worked great, possibly due to my low expectations at first. But this product is amazing! I love how smooth my dry legs felt. Though during Winter it pairs perfectly with The Body Lotion during warmer months this will be excellent all on its own! Lastly, if you suffer from Eczema this may be your perfect match as it’s accepted by the National Eczema Association; and unscented.

The Body Lotion
The body lotion is a lightweight lotion that pairs perfectly with The Body Serum. I personally prefer a much thicker consistency during Winter for my extremely dry skin. However, I found this to work well when paired with the serum. On its own, it wasn’t necessarily my favorite for my current state of dry needs. This, however, will be perfect for warmer months! It’s not too heavy and doesn’t leave a sticky residue. It melts perfectly into the skin providing the right amount of moisture. The skin feels so soft and smooth afterward!
I’m looking forward to enjoying this more now that the weather is warming up! The body lotion is formulated with Vitamins E & E, Omega’s 6 & 9, and Niacinamide.
Much like The Body Serum this too is unscented. No fragrance options are available. My only complaint would be the packaging, it’s a twist-off cap and you squeeze the product out. I would’ve much preferred a pump like the Serum. But that’s just me being picky.

My Final Thoughts On The Nécessaire Body Ritual Set
OK, so have I convinced you yet that these products are worth it? They’ve become my shower and after-shower holy grails! If you’ve always wanted to try the Nécessaire products but don’t want to splurge just yet; The Body Ritual set is excellent and worth giving a try! The products will surprise you at how well they perform! Likewise, they make for a great self-care treat!
